The fifth annual SeaWorld Pole-to-Pole Fun Run is happening this Sunday morning to raise money for animal research and conservation programs.
Proceeds from the 5K will benefit the nonprofit Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute‘s studies and conservation efforts to help wildlife around the world, park officials said.
Last year’s event helped fund satellite transmitters that were attached to sea lions, which had been rescued and were returned to the ocean. Researchers hope to gain crucial data about the species’ travels, foraging habitats and ability to thrive in the ocean.
Runners will pass by marine mammals and birds, and receive free race-day, single-day admission to SeaWorld. They’ll also get a T-shirt, breakfast and a chance to win prizes.
