Late last year, park officials launched the Mission Trails 5-Peak Challenge in an effort to alleviate some of the heavy traffic at the popular Cowels Mountain.
But don’t limit yourself to just the sights and trails at Mission Trails Regional Park. And, your Facebook friends are exhausted from seeing shots at Potato Chip Rock. There are plenty of other hikes around San Diego County worth your time. Here are just five hikes you should try this year:
Head east for a rigorous and scenic 6-mile challenge. The trail features a river, plant life and wondrous views once you hit the top of the mountain.
Want a quick but challenging hike? Try P Mountain near Palomar College. The hike is a straight incline that’s only one mile long but will leave your calves screaming. You’ll be rewarded at the top with a great view of North County.
Double Peak Trail
Enjoy nature and the beautiful community surrounding Double Peak with this hike. The hike is about 5 miles where visitors will see horses, a lake and a 360 degree view.
Bayside Trail at Cabrillo National Monument
Get a dose of history with this hike. The Bayside Trail is roughly two miles and features tidepools, and of course, the Cabrillo Monument and lighthouse. It’s an easy, family-friendly walk.
The challenging El Cajon Mountain hike is 11 miles roundtrip. The beautiful hike is well-maintained and includes great views. Just be sure to bring enough water!
