Enough snow remained Sunday in the Laguna Mountains to provide a winter playground for San Diegans — those who braved traffic tie-ups on Interstate 8 and backups on Sunrise Highway.

Cars packed with kids and sleds waited in line for limited parking spots along the highway. But one parked, families hit the slopes for sledding and snowman building.

Wednesday will bring the next chance for precipitation with a 20 percent chance of showers after 10 a.m. Partly sunny skies are expected, with a high near 61.

Sunny skies were expected Monday and Tuesday, but high surf is predicted late Monday into Tuesday. Monday’s high will be near 63 with calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

In the Laguna Mountains, the high Monday was expected to be near 43 with northeast winds around 15 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph.

Monday night is expected to be partly cloudy, with a low around 48 in San Diego. Calm wind should become northeast around 5 mph after midnight.

Tuesday’s high will be near 64 with east wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service expects high surf to return to San Diego from late Monday night through Tuesday evening. Waves and surf is expected to rise Monday evening, peaking during the day Tuesday at 7 to 10 feet with sets to 12 feet, then lowering on Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Highest surf is forecast for south of Carlsbad, including Oceanside, Cardiff, La Jolla Shores and Imperial Beach. Dangerous swimming conditions may occur due to large waves and strong rip currents. Waves may top jetties and rock structures at times with minor coastal flooding and minor beach erosion possible during the time of highest tide around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
