A storm in the Gulf of Alaska will bring unusually high surf to San Diego waters beginning early Monday morning.

A National Weather Service high surf advisory goes into effect at 6 a.m. Monday and continues through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters are predicting surf averaging 4 to 7 feet with sets up to 12 feet along west facing beaches north of Newport Beach and south of Del Mar.

The forecast for San Diego on Sunday calls for partly cloudy conditions with highs 71 to 76 near the coast and 75 to 80 inland. Lows overnight will be 40 to 50. Monday will be cooler near the coast and warmer inland.

Another period of high surf is expected to begin on Thursday and continue into next weekend.
