Electricity was restored to nearly 4,500 Chula Vista homes and businesses following a power outage Wednesday morning, but some San Diego-area utility customers affected by a second outage are expected to remain in the dark until the afternoon.

The Chula Vista outage struck for unknown reasons at 4:11 a.m. and knocked out service to 4,476 utility customers in Chula Vista, Castle Park, Otay and Bonita, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.

The affected areas included neighborhoods east of Broadway, west of Interstate 805 and south of D Street to L Street, according to Chula Vista police. The outage also caused a delay on the Metropolitan Transit System’s blue line trolley before service was restored.

A second outage at 4:35 a.m. initially affected 469 utility customers in the San Diego neighborhoods of Ocean Beach, Sunset Cliffs and Point Loma, but has since been partially restored, according to SDG&E. Power there is expected to be restored to the remaining 198 customers by 3 p.m. today.
