One of the most photographed parts of San Diego — its expansive bay — will get a new vantage point in early 2016.
The Port of San Diego has decided to convert a 2,400-square-foot platform on which a snack shack once stood into a viewing platform on the north embarcardero.
“This will be a signature spot — the perfect place to enjoy the view of cruise ships, sailboats or a sun set,” said Dan Malcolm, chairman of the board of port commissioners.
The platform is located between Broadway Pier and B Street Pier on North Harbor Drive. It was previously the location of the Bay Cafe, which closed in 2014 and demolished.
The port plans to upgrade the platform’s concrete surface, add illuminated stainless steel railings and make structural repairs to the piles supporting the platform.
