The county Department of Environmental Health has lifted the water contact closure for the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park shorelines after more than two weeks.

The department announced Wednesday that testing confirms the safety of the water quality along the beach from the international border to the south end of Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach.

This area had been closed to water contact since July 19 because of sewage-contaminated flows from the Tijuana River after heavy thunderstorms sparked by Tropical Cyclone Dolores hit the Southern California and Northern Baja region.
