Most of the San Diego-area shoreline is safe for swimming and surfing again following the lifting of the last major beach closure caused by runoff from thunderstorms earlier this month.

The county Department of Environmental Health lifted the water contact closure order for the Imperial Beach shoreline on Sunday afternoon. This includes the beach-line from the south end of Seacoast Drive north to Carnation Avenue and including Camp Surf.

The department said water quality testing confirms that recent Tijuana River flows are no longer impacting these beaches.

At one point, beaches all the way north to Coronado were under closure orders.

However, the ocean shoreline from the International Border to the north end of the Tijuana Slough shoreline will remain closed until sampling confirms these areas are safe for water contact.
