People planning to picnic or hike at Louis Stelzer County Park in the East County this weekend should boil water they get from the on-site plumbing system, the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health reported Friday.

The drinking water system at the park on Wildcat Canyon Road tested present for total coliform bacteria, which generally comes from animal fecal matter in the soil, and indicates a problem with the pipes.

The order applies to the ranger station, volunteer pad, park drinking fountains and public restrooms.

The county said the order was issued to ensure the water that’s used at the park is free from contamination. The order will remain in effect until the distribution system has been disinfected and future samples confirm the absence of bacteria, according to the DEH.
