A rare group of 30 pilot whales was spotted by a whale watching group off San Diego this weekend.
This species of dolphin is rarely seen in San Diego waters.
San Diego Whale Watch captain Chris Switzer, however, said he has seen them at least four times in the past year.
Switzer and approximately 100 passengers saw the large porpoises just five miles west of Mission Bay.
The captain said the warm waters brought by El Nino are the main reason for the mammals’ appearance. In fact, he said that these waters invite more exotic marine animals.
