Power is expected to be restored Wednesday to the remainder of the approximately 3,000 Carlsbad area homes and businesses left in the dark following an electrical outage.

The outage struck in the vicinity of Alga and Alicante roads shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to Carlsbad Police and San Diego Gas & Electric. SDG&E said a combination of factors caused a problem in the electric system.

Power was restored to utility customers in the Bressi Ranch and La Costa neighborhoods by around 9 p.m., police said.

By mid-morning, service had been restored to all but 15 utility customers, according to SDG&E. The utility said power would be restored to the remainder of its customers around 3 p.m.
