Do you like the feel of sand on your body?
Beginning July 15, you won’t be able to rinse yourself off at California state beaches.
Because of record California drought, all state beaches and parks will shut their outdoor rinse stations.
“California is facing extremely severe drought conditions,” said California State Parks Director Lisa Mangat. “It is important for all Californians to conserve water at home, at work and even when recreating outdoors.”
The department estimates that shutting off outdoor rinse stations will conserve more than 1.2 gallons of water per shower or rinse, thus potentially saving a total of more than 18 million gallons of water annually.
The entire state is under a mandate from Gov. Jerry Brown to cut water use by 25 percent.
What do you do if you can’t rinse off? California State Parks recommends the following alternatives:
- Use a towel or brush to wipe away the sand
- Bring water from home in a reusable jug
- Use a pressurized sprayer or one of the newer pressurized portable showers
