Comic-Con doesn’t officially start until Thursday, but it’s already affecting San Diego traffic.

The throng of convention goers picking up their badges at the Town and Country Resort, 500 Hotel Circle North, in Mission Valley prompted the San Diego Police Department to issue a SigAlert for the Area.

The alert was issued at 3:20 p.m. and is expected to last until 8 p.m. As of 5 p.m., there was already gridlock in the area and police expect traffic to worsen.

Comic-Con International official starts Thursday, but for a select few, the pop-culture event kicks off with a Preview Night on Wednesday.
