The run supports scholarships for UCSD students, with runners forming teams to raise money. This year, “ViaSat” led the fundraising at $3800, with Race Condition and Poseidon’s Progeny behind at $3500 and $3020 respectively. The race also features a Junior Run for younger racers.

Since its inception in 1996, the race has raised $3.9 million in scholarships, according to UCSD’s official 5k website.
