Due to heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for the San Diego region, the annual Bike to Work Day has been postponed for two weeks until Friday, May 29.

Event sponsor SANDAG said Thursday the rain could create unsafe bike riding conditions across the county during the morning and afternoon commutes this Friday.

Should riders choose to continue with their plans to bike to work, they should take extra safety precautions, SANDAG said, and to be aware that no supporting pits stops will be available this Friday.

While there will be a two-week delay of Bike to Work Day, SANDAG expects that the rescheduled event will include activities originally planned, including pit stops where riders can pick up a free T-shirt, snacks, and encouragement.

Bike riders are advised to visit for information about pit stops that will participate.
