A San Diego quality-of-life dashboard released Wednesday showed across-the-board improvements, with nine of 15 indicators increasing over the past year.

Equinox Center, a nonprofit, non-partisan research group, said only the categories of landfill waste, highway miles driven, water use and beach water quality showed declines.

“We firmly believe that what gets measured gets managed better,” said Equinox Center Managing Director Stephen Heverly. “The 2015 Dashboard tells us that overall, things appears to be trending in the right direction for the San Diego region.

The nine indicators showing improvements were:

  • Employment
  • Air quality
  • Greenhouse gas emissions
  • Renewable energy
  • Residential energy consumption
  • Electric vehicles
  • Venture capital
  • Park access
  • Transportation choices

Two other categories, housing affordability and cross-border metrics, were added this year.

The dashboard is the sixth annual measurement by the organization, whose goal is to ensure a healthy environment, strong economy and vibrant communities in the San Diego region. The Equinox Center works out of the Co-Merge Workplace in downtown San Diego.
