A Google executive who was killed on Mount Everest in an avalanche triggered by the massive earthquake in Nepal had ties to Carlsbad.
The father and stepmother of Dan Fredinburg live in Carlsbad. They told the U-T San Diego that their son wanted to climb the highest peaks on each continent and Everest was the fifth on his list.
Fredinburg, 33, was on a company-sponsored expedition to the world’s highest peak when a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck, killing thousands in Nepal.
The Google executive grew up on Orange County and earned degrees from UC Irvine and the University of Southern California. He dated actress Sophia Bush for a time, often appearing with her at Hollywood events.
