San Diego is know for its avocados, food and arts scene. This weekend, all of that are on display.

From the Avocado Festival, to Taste of Hillcrest to the Asian Film Festival Spring Showcase, there something for everyone.

Taste of Hillcrest

Hillcrest is one of San Diego’s favorite foodie hangouts. With hundreds of restaurants, eateries and bistros from various cultures, it’s an exotic and flavorful that will delight your palate.

The Annual Taste of Hillcrest offers culinary treats from some of the best chefs in the neighborhood in a self-guided tour. More than 30 restaurants spanning more than 12 blocks are participating in this event.

Food lovers can treat their taste buds to foods from Italy, Mexico, Middle East, Asia and many others.

Taste of Hillcrest goes from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $30 per person presale, $35 at the door.

Marvel Universe Live

Just in time for “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” opening May 1, comes Marvel Universe Live. For the first time, Marvel characters are coming to life live on stage. More than 25 Marvel superheroes and villains will battle it out at the Valley View Casino Center.

Join Spider-Man, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Wolverine among others for a fun family night with live-action arena experience.

The show goes from Thursday through Sunday at various times. Tickets range from $22.50 to $77.50.

Fallbrook Avocado Festival

Thousands of avocado lovers have converged in Fallbrook each year for the annual Avocado Festival to sample avocados, enjoy cooking contests, music and food.

Festival goers can buy funky avocado-themed gifts and enjoy live entertainment and friendly beer gardens along Main Street. There is a car race where the cars are made from avocados.

The festival goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Pacific Arts Movement Annual Spring Showcase

A companion to the much bigger San Diego Asian Film Festival, the Annual Spring Showcase will screen 16 films from nine countries.

Produce by Pacific-Arts Movement, the showcase attracted more than 5,000 people last year. This year, the showcase is having a special retrospective on the 40th anniversary of the fall of Saigon with movies made by Vietnamese-American filmmakers called Cinema Little Saigon. For more on the showcase, read our preview of the event.

The Spring Showcase goes from Thursday to April 25 at various locations. Screening times vary and tickets range from $9 to $12.

Annual Lakeside Rodeo

Bucklin’ broncos, steer wrestlin’ and calf ropin’ — no, it ain’t the Wide West, it’s the annual Lakeside Rodeo.

All weekend long, Lakeside will host traditional rodeo competitions along with food and crafts.

The rodeo goes from Friday to Sunday. Rodeo times vary and tickets range from $5 – $20.

Salsa Under the Stars

Headquarters at Seaport is hosting a free night of salsa dancing Friday with live music from the Manny Cepeda Trio.

Salsa Under the Stars takes place in the open-air courtyard. All are welcome to attend, no partner or prior dance experience required.

Joining the event is Soldiers who Salsa, a vibrant group of vets who are using salsa as part of their rehabilitation program.
