The spring equinox is Friday and that means there will be more daylight to enjoy San Diego’s perfect year-round weather.
Here are some of top events this weekend for you to enjoy San Diego.
San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering Expo Day
The seventh annual San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering is a week-long celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM) education in San Diego County.
The celebration culminates in Expo Day at Petco Park, a free event with more than 130 local businesses, corporations, and organizations providing interactive, hands-on activities showcasing STEM from all parts of Southern California.
Expo Day goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival
Much like music, the language of dance is universal. Celebrate that universality this weekend at the the 22nd annual Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival.
The event is a the largest multi-cultural dance festival in Southern California and will feature more than 250 dancers and musicians representing cultures from around the globe.
Performances are 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Spreckels Theatre. Tickets range from $20 to $30.
A Midsummer Nights Dream & Carnival of the Animals
Frolicking fairies, colorful animals and star-crossed lovers, the San Diego Ballet Dance Company‘s ballet is actually two family-friendly shows in one.
Set to the music of Mendelssohn, Shakespeare’s immortal comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” comes to life in Javier Velesco’s fast, fleet and funny adaptation. The second show, “Carnival of the Animals,” was created specially for children as a colorful journey through the animal kingdom.
The ballet performs at 8 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $27.
The Spring Thing at MCASD
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego annual fundraising gala takes on a decidedly more “heavy metal” theme this year. In spired by El Anatsui’s “Gravity and Grace: Monumental Works,” the “Spring Thing” features art made from discard metal.
The event features dining by celebrated chefs from the local area as well as an after party with DJs Adam Salter and Steve French.
The event goes from 7 p.m. t0 11:45 p.m. Friday. Tickets range from $75 to $175
San Diego Sings Festival
In addition to the usual sights and sounds at Balboa Park every weekend, this Saturday 20 of San Diego’s top choral groups are going to perform a free day-long concert at the Prado for the San Diego Sings Festival.
Performers range children’s chorus and barbershop groups to a symphony chorus, and from community choirs and women’s groups to a Norwegian male chorus and a Chinese choral society.
Performances start at 11 a.m. and at end at 5 p.m.
