The San Diego area will see showers developing Sunday along with high winds that will make driving dangerous in some areas.
A National Weather Service forecast calls for a cloudy Sunday with a 50 percent chance of rain. In addition, a wind advisory is in effect through 10 p.m. Highs will be 60 to 65.
Winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts that could reach 60 mph are forecast for areas along mountain ridge tops and desert slopes and in wind-favored desert areas.
“A trough of low pressure just north of the area will likely result in strong and gusty west to southwest winds over the desert slopes and deserts…although winds will diminish earlier over the high deserts, likely by mid-morning Sunday,” according to the weather service. “Winds will be overall weaker late Sunday through Sunday night.”
Forecasters said traffic on Interstate 8 in the mountains would likely be impacted. The strong winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists in high-profile vehicles. Drivers were also advised to watch out for broken tree limbs and blowing dust, which could reduce visibility to a mile or less.
Rain is likely Sunday night and could continue into Monday. Overnight lows will be 52 to 58.
