A pair of early-morning power outages left more than 1,600 San Diego-area homes and businesses in the dark Wednesday.

The first outage began just before 4 a.m. and affected 1,456 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in the National City, Paradise Hills, Skyline and Bay Terraces neighborhoods, according to the utility, which restored power by 8:30 a.m.

The second outage, which struck 205 customers in the downtown area around 4:15 a.m., could last until noon, SDG&E reported.

The causes of the outages were under review.
