The killer whale born at SeaWorld San Diego two weeks ago is a girl, park officials said Thursday.
The sex of the orca born to 10-year-old Kalia on Dec. 2 was determined through DNA testing and announced to employees. Her birth is the seventh successful one at the park in its 50 years.
The calf, born following a 17-month gestation period, appears healthy and is bonding with Kalia.
SeaWorld officials said the whale will be named after the start of the new year.
