Mama’s Kitchen, the nonprofit that provides meals for people suffering from HIV/AIDS and cancer, plans to distribute thousands of pies Wednesday as part of it’s annual “Pie in the Sky” fundraiser.

The organization is hoping to sell more than 5,000 pies this year. Distribution by volunteers is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.

While most of the baked goods are spoken for, some pies will be available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mama’s Kitchen, 3960 Home Ave.

According to Mama’s Kitchen, pumpkin, traditional apple, Dutch apple and pecan pies will be available for $25 each, of which $15 will be tax deductible.

The revenue from each pie sold will pay for more than eight home- delivered meals, according to organizers. More information is available at (619) 233-6262.

Another food-giving organization, Meals-on-Wheels, plans to distribute around 2,000 Thanksgiving dinners to seniors today. The New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County paid the $10,000 cost of the meals.

St. Vincent de Paul Village plans to serve 1,600 Thanksgiving meals to the homeless and other needy people at its East Village location. Lunch is set to begin at 11 a.m., and a dinner will be served at 5 p.m., at 1501 Imperial Ave.

Also at 11 a.m., the Salvation Army will serve a pre-Thanksgiving meal at its Escondido location, 1301 Las Villas Way.
