The holder of a winning Fantasy 5 ticket worth $407,869 is a San Diego grandfather who won an even larger drawing 11 years ago, state lottery officials announced Friday.
Leonidas Carandang was on his way to watch football games on television with friends Sunday when he purchased the ticket at a 7-Eleven store on Olde Highway 80 in Flinn Springs, just east of El Cajon.
He checked online around midnight and saw that his ticket matched the winning numbers of 3, 12, 14, 32 and 34.
“I’ve been playing that set of numbers for the past three weeks, every time the jackpot goes beyond $100,000,” Carandang said. “I made the numbers up. I can’t even remember why I picked them.”
He collected about $500,000 by playing the Fantasy 5 game in 2003, but Carandang said those winnings have been just about exhausted. He declined to divulged plans for the new jackpot.
Lottery officials say the Fantasy 5 game has some of the best odds of winning.
