Slightly below-average temperatures and calm seas in San Diego County Saturday are expected to give way to warmer weather, elevated surf and a heightened risk for strong rip currents next week.
National Weather Service meteorologists said they were anticipating a “significant change in the weather pattern” extending from Wednesday and through the end of the next week as a large area of high pressure builds. The high pressure was expected to push drier and warmer weather into Southern California.
Mid- to late-week highs are expected to be 5 to 15 degrees above average, which could combine with low humidity to up the risk for wildfires, forecasters said.
An elevated long period northwest swell that will generate surf of up to 8 feet, mainly along west facing beaches, is also expected next week, according to NWS forecasters, who added that strong rip currents would also be possible.
