Strong, widespread rip currents and higher than average surf will affect the San Diego County coastline again Thursday, but the south-southwest swell they resulted from is expected to diminish Friday, forecasters said.
A National Weather Service beach hazards statement is set to expire Thursday evening.
Forecasters said 4- to 6-foot surf with higher sets would pound southwest-facing beaches and 2- to 4-foot surf was expected elsewhere along the coast.
“The elevated surf, strong rip currents and longshore currents will produce dangerous swimming conditions, especially for inexperienced swimmers,” the weather service said.
Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger in the vicinity of jetties, inlets and piers, according to the weather service.
Beachgoers were advised to use caution and to swim near a lifeguard.
Forecasters expect the swell to gradually lower Friday and into the weekend.
