Knits, scarves and rave prints are on San Diego-based Petco‘s new tongue-in-cheek list of fall fashions for dogs.
Petco noted that Americans will spend an estimated $58.51 billion on pets this year, and some of that will be driven by fashion, even if the canine clothes horses have no idea what it’s all about.
Here are Petco’s top styles for dogs based on designer fashions from runways around the world:
Knit — Knit pants were a common theme on the fall runways and Elle Magazine named knits as one of their “top 14 trends for fall.” Petco suggests dogs can pull off this trend with a Pup Crew Gray and Pink Henley Dog Sweater or Pup Crew Red and White Peekaboo Dog Sweater. The latter features warm material, perfect for cool weather and a zipper and stripes for a stylish look, according to Petco, while the Henley sweater has “adorable buttons on the back for added detail.”
Shearling — Designers also loved shearling on the runways. Although most dogs have fur, winter months can still prove cold, especially for dogs with shorter coats, Petco advises. The company’s Pet Life’s Brown Metallic Dog Jacket is fashionable and features a “stylish faux fur hood.” This coat contains an insulated barrier that keeps a dog’s body temperature regulated, yet the material is breathable and comfortable. Concerned owners can protect tiny paws from cold with Wag-a-tude Brown Moccasin Dog Shoes. Petco says the zip closure adds function to the “classy brown quilted materials and faux fur all around.”
Scarves — New York Magazine named long scarves as one of the biggest trends for Fall 2014. Petco says its Smoochie Pooch Pink Heart Fair Isle dog scarf is the perfect fall accessory for pets, predicting the design will turn heads with its hearts and pom poms.
Rave Prints — Bright patterns were also a highlight feature at many fashion shows and Petco suggests pets can join the party. The company’s fashion arbiters recommend the Wag-a-tude Blue Multi Skulls Print Dog Hoodie with blue, orange and green brightly-colored skulls or Pup Crew Sport Blue Blurry Stripes Dog Tank Top with bright neon colors.
