This weekend’s activities are chock full of fun outdoors activities. Let’s face it, San Diego has great weather and it would be a shame to waste it being inside, so let’s have some fun in the sun.

Chula Vista Harborfest

When it comes to summertime activities, Chula Vista sure knows how to through at party. Its annual Harbor Fest at Bayside Park in the Chula Vista Marina, 550 Marina Pkwy, is a free family-friendly event that has everything that you could possible want for summer celebration.

The festival, happening on Saturday and Sunday, features four performance stages, interactive educational exhibits from the Living Coast Discovery Center, old history boats and a Youth Zone for the kids.

For the big kids, there is a Sustainable Seafood Fest and a wine and spirits garden.

ArtWalk at NTC Liberty Station

If you want to get some art and culture with your weekend activity, head on over to NTC Liberty Station, 2645 Historic Decatur Rd., for the ninth annual ArtWalk. The Saturday-Sunday event features artworks from more than 175 artists, which are all available for purchase. There is also live music and interactive arts for both adults and kids to enjoy.

And no art show would be complete without a beer and wine garden. There will also be some great street food selection to choose from.

If you crave adventure of a literary type, then Twainfest on Saturday is for you. The free festival  at Old Town Historic Park, 4002 Wallace St., is a celebration of Mark Twain and other writers of 19th century.

You can hear works by famous 19th century writers, such as Walt Whitman, Edgar Allan Poe, Harriet Beecher Stowe and more, read aloud by local actors.

There are also a Liar’s Contest and other literary games for kids, such as Fish for Words, Chortle This, and Telegraph Crunch.

World Bodysurfing Championships

The water temperature is great right now for some bodysurfing, so why not enter a contest or watch one. The 38th Annual World Bodysurfing Championships will be held next to the Oceanside Pier on Saturday with the finals on Sunday.

Organized by, approximately 350-400 bodysurfers from around the world will compete in the contest with the grand champions from the men’s and women’s divisions being announced Sunday.

America’s Finest City Half-Marathon and 5K

If running’s your thing and you want to help a good cause, then the America’s Finest City Half-Marathon and 5K on Sunday is perfect you. Proceeds will benefit the Cabrillo National Park Foundation and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The course starts at the Cabrillo National Monument, 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Drive, and continues to Balboa Park. The 5K course is within the park.
