The whale was spotted surfacing in the bay sometime this morning, according to CBS8.

About 11 a.m. today the station’s news helicopter showed live pictures of the whale in open waters near South Mission Beach.

CBS8 reported that the whale swam out from the jetty that separates Mission Beach and Ocean Beach and was last seen swimming north near South Mission Beach.

San Diego lifeguards were not immediately available for comment, and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesperson Lee Swanson said he was awaiting an update from lifeguards.
