The average price of gas in San Diego County dropped to its lowest point since March 13, down to $3.983 for a gallon of regular gas.

A streak of decreases has brought the price down 17 cents in 19 days, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. Prices are now 5.9 cents less than they were one week ago, 13.6 cents lower than one month ago and 8.1 cents cents below what it was one year ago.

The current trend was immediately preceded by 11 increases in 15 days, which pushed average gas prices to their highest amount since May 19.

The current decrease is a part of a larger statewide drop in prices that brings California’s average price per gallon to below $4 for the first time since April. Market tracker gasbuddy.com shows the state’s average at $3.998.

California’s prices remain higher than the national average, however, which also dropped this month to $3.519 per gallon.

Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California attributes the price drops to an increase in supply from oil refineries running at a higher capacity.
