The San Diego International Airport opened The Spirit of Silence meditation room on Friday to give travelers a refuge of calm amid the stress of air travel.
The Spirit of Silence is a place for travelers to contemplate, meditate or pray. Located post-security in Terminal 2, the non-denominational space is sensitive to the diversity of travelers and offers a calm respite before or after flights.
Created by Seattle-based artist Norie Sato, The Spirit of Silence takes inspiration from the undefinable and changing edge between water and sky, clear and opaque, organic and built. Evocative of the San Diego environment, the room encourages visitors to sit with their thoughts, shielded from the busy airport experience outside.
The room is the airport’s first meditation room.
