The top-20 most wrinkle-prone regions in a study by RoC Skincare and Sperling’s BestPlaces.

A study sponsored a manufacturer of skincare products ranked San Diego as the least wrinkle-prone region of the United States.

The study by RoC Skincare, a Johnson & Johnson company, attributed San Diego’s favorable raking to its mild climate. Riverside, just two hours away, ranked first on the list because of the large number of sunny days.

The rankings, created in partnership with research firm Sperling’s BestPlaces, examined the impact of lifestyle, occupational and environmental elements on skin by region. In addition to factors commonly known to cause skin damage such as climate and pollution, the study also weighed unique criteria, including stress levels, traffic commutes and diet.

“People are widely aware of the dangers of UV exposure, so a natural assumption is that the Sunbelt states would automatically be at the top of this list,” said New York-based dermatologist Erin Gilbert. “However, we sometimes forget that there are a number of regionally-based factors – not getting enough rest or working late hours – that can also take a toll on your skin.”

Here is how the central cities in California’s metro areas ranked:

1 — Riverside
16 — Los Angeles
25 — Oakland
36 — Sacramento
43 — San Francisco
47 — San Jose
48 — Santa Ana
50 – San Diego
