Strong, gusty winds are expected to develop later Tuesday morning in San Diego County’s mountains and deserts.
A National Weather Service wind advisory for the mountains and deserts will take effect at 11 a.m. and will extend to 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Areas of west to northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts that could reach 55 mph, according to the weather service. Forecasters said wind speeds would increase Tuesday morning and the strongest winds would occur Tuesday afternoon and evening near mountain ridge tops and on adjacent desert slopes.
“A low pressure system moving inland through California will bring stronger onshore flow with periods of strong and gusty west winds for the mountains and deserts for late this morning through late tonight,” the weather service advisory said.
The wind could kick up sand and dust on desert roadways, which could reduce visibility.
The wind will also make driving difficult, especially for motorists in high profile vehicles, according to the weather service. Drivers were also advised to be on the lookout for broken tree limbs and other debris.
