The National Weather Service scheduled a winter weather advisory for mountain areas above 4,500 feet until 5 p.m., saying three to seven inches of snow accumulation was possible in those parts. The agency issues a winter weather advisory whenever snow is expected to impact motorists.

“Travel will be hazardous in the mountains due to snow covered roadways and poor visibility … chains may be required in some areas,” the weather service said.

Early Wednesday, rain fell around the rest of the county. The weather service said showers today would mostly be light to moderate, though heavier precipitation occurred this morning. Rainfall totals throughout the county Wednesday are expected to measure from around a half-inch to full inch.

Smaller amounts of rain fell around the region on Tuesday. The weather service reported rainfall totals of 0.42 inches on Volcan Mountain; 0.38 in Pine Hills, 0.37 at Lake Cuyamaca; 0.32 on Otay Mountain; 0.31 in Poway; 0.29 in Alpine; 0.25 in Barona and at Ramona Airport; 0.2 in Carlsbad; 0.19 in Encinitas; 0.15 in Flinn Springs; 0.11 in Oceanside; 0.08 in Mission Valley; 0.06 in Point Loma; and 0.05 at Lindbergh Field.
