Some outstanding volunteers were recognized Tuesday by the Carlsbad Police Department with awards for serving more than 1,000 hours helping out at special events, such as the Carlsbad 5000, annual street fair, and police and fire open houses.
Eight members of the Senior Volunteer Patrol Officers were honored with Special Event Achievement Medals, given to them in recognition of the hours they serve in addition to their regular patrol duties and day-to-day activities. The volunteers provide a variety of services at the city’s large special events, including directing traffic, aiding people, and keeping order.
This year’s recipients of the medals are Jerry Clements, Clarke Vollbrecht, Bill Siggins, Ron Hogan, Betty Fitzpatrick, Don Lawrence, Adrian Guerrero, and Mike Whaley.
