Visitors to Lindbergh Field won’t see an anti-SeaWorld ad featuring “Sister Act” star Kathy Najimy, a native San Diegan, U-T San Diego reported Tuesday.

“PETA announced Tuesday it is suing the San Diego International Airport after its advertising vendor chose not to accept $17,500 for an ad urging tourists to stay clear of SeaWorld,” the U-T said. “The amusement park has been caught in controversy since last year’s release of the movie ‘Blackfish’ focused opposition on killer whale captivity.”

In a blog post, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said:

Kathy wants the thousands of tourists who arrive each day at the San Diego airport to shun the notorious marine abusement park and choose animal-friendly outings instead. In the oceans where they belong, orcas travel up to 100 miles per day, but SeaWorld confines these intelligent, social animals to virtual bathtubs. Orcas at SeaWorld break their teeth and endure chronic pain from snapping and gnawing at the pool gates as a result of stress. It’s little wonder that so many die far short of their natural life expectancy: At least 25 orcas have died in SeaWorld facilities since 1986, and not one died of old age.

The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of San Diego & Imperial Counties is joining in the lawsuit, PETA said.

This isn’t Najimy’s first foray into animal activism.

Her website describes her support for efforts to abolish “the cruel and inhumane carriage horse industry” in New York City.

She has partnered with NYClass.org who have designed a vintage electric car to hopefully replace the regal glorious horses who have to navigate the brutal trafficky smog laden NY streets. The glorious animals plod on cement for sometimes 18 hours a day and their hooves are separating from their feet. They get spooked by horns and congestion on the busy streets of New York City and have put themselves, their passengers and other drivers and pedestrians in danger. Three have keeled over in midtown this year.
