Close to Navy Base San Diego, the first Dunkin’ Donuts shop in San Diego opened Monday with a line that began forming at 4:30 a.m., Fox 5 San Diego reported.
Also famed for its coffee, the fast-food outlet is offering a 20 percent discount for active military in March, said company representatives. The lone Dunkin’ Donuts south of Camp Pendleton is at 601 Pacific Highway — inside the Embassy Suites San Diego Bay.
One T-shirt spotted at the San Diego opening said: “Friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks.”
The San Diego incursion is said to be the tip of the donut spear, with 45 more stores planned for Southern California, Fox 5 said. The company is based in Canton, Mass., and is widely known on the East Coast.
“At the end of 2011, there were 10,083 Dunkin’ Donuts stores worldwide, including 7,015 franchised restaurants in 36 United States and 3,068 international shops in 32 countries,” said the company website.
