Bigger than normal waves are in store this week for San Diego County’s beaches starting later today, meteorologists said.
“A large long-period west-to-northwest swell will move into the Southern California coastal waters today and persist through Wednesday afternoon,” according to the National Weather Service. “The swell will begin subsiding late Wednesday, but above average surf will continue through the end of the week.”
The agency scheduled a high surf advisory for local beaches from 2 p.m. today to 2 p.m. Wednesday, saying 5 to 8-foot surf with sets to 10 feet was likely.
A high surf advisory is issued when above average waves are expected to produce rip currents and localized beach erosion.
