Need to re-charge your Smart Car? Or find a space to transfer to a bus?
The Sabre Springs/Penasquitos Transit Station will open Monday following a one-year renovation that will make the outpost eco-friendly and include hundreds of parking spaces.
The facility will include a new multi-level parking structure and added surface parking for a total of 630 vehicles.
The station will also have eight bus bays, passenger shelters, next vehicle arrival signs, 10 electric vehicle charging stations, a bicycle parking building, designated spaces for clean-air and vanpool vehicles, electronic parking space availability signs, security cameras and water-efficient landscaping, according to the Metropolitan Transit System.
The solar-powered facility was unveiled Thursday. It will serve the Interstate 15 rapid bus service that will launch later this year, providing high-frequency, seven-day-a-week service in both directions.
According to the San Diego Association of Governments, the buses will run every 10-15 minutes during peak commute periods between Escondido and downtown San Diego, and Escondido and Sorrento Mesa.
