Lovebirds who want to get married on Valentine’s Day can simply drop by the San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk‘s office downtown tomorrow.

“We have decided to open our downtown location for walk-in services on Valentine’s Day to accommodate all those wanting to be married on this special occasion,”  the head of the office, Ernest Dronenburg Jr., said.

A record number of people could show up, he said, because Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday before the long Presidents Day weekend. Appointments are still recommended, and those who make them will be given priority, Dronenberg said.

The office in the County Administration Center at 1600 Pacific Highway will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Appointments will be required at the branch locations in Chula Vista, 590 Third Ave., El Cajon, 200 S. Magnolia Ave., and San Marcos, 141 E. Carmel St. Hours at those offices are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to Dronenburg, public marriage licenses cost $70, while a confidential marriage license is $89.

The price for marriages performed by county staff at the County Administration Center is an additional $88. County staff can also serve as witnesses, if needed, for an $18 fee.
