San Diego County public health officials reported 2,326 new cases of COVID-19 and 17 more deaths Thursday.

That brings the county’s case totals to 721,390 since the pandemic began two years ago. The death toll stands at 4,871.

Sixteen more patients required hospital treatment, officials said, and two more needed to be admitted to intensive care.

Locally, the seven-day positivity rate through Sunday was 14.6%. The statewide positivity rate reported Thursday over the past eight weeks was 8.6%.

Statewide, there have been nearly 8.2 million COVID-19 cases, with 81,074 dead from the disease. Nationally, there have been 77.4 million cases, with 915,316 dead.
