The county Department of Environmental Health and Quality on Thursday lifted the boil -water order for the Butterfield Ranch water system in Julian.

The system, on Great Southern Overland Stage Route (S2), supplies water to 313 connections, which include 75 manufactured home spaces, 233 RV spaces, an office and store, a clubhouse and three swimming pools.

Follow-up water samples confirm the absence of E.coli and total coliform bacteria in the water supply. The drinking water system had previously tested present for the bacteria.

The presence of E.coli bacteria indicated that the water may have been contaminated with human or animal wastes. Total coliform bacteria can come from soils and other sources in the environment and can indicate a problem with the water supply.

The boil water order was issued to ensure all water used is free from contamination.
