A large crowd gathered for Point Loma High School’s 99th annual Homecoming on Sept. 19.
During the event, which was themed “Centennial Celebration,” attendees saw a blowout football win and cheered loudly for a halftime show featuring both current and former students.
The festivities began with an annual event, the Alumni Walk, in which all alumni at the game paraded along the school’s track to the cheers of current students.

After the school’s cheerleading squad performed – featuring well-practiced lifts by its members – the Homecoming Court was introduced. They walked beneath a formation of gleaming silver swords held by the PLHS NJROTC Honor Guard.
The court included:
Freshmen: Morgan Heider and Tavin Goetting;
Sophomores: Addison Hughes and Rocco Pourhamaidi;
Juniors: Jonah Bierman and Shirley Hollister; and
Seniors: Renee Bettencourt and Peter DeSalvo.

The school’s marching band offered a flawless performance before the class floats concluded the ceremonies.
Each class selected a decade from the school’s century-long history for their float theme. Decades chosen were: Freshmen, 1920s; sophomores, 1990s; juniors, 2020s and seniors, 1970s.
The award for best float went to the seniors after strong competition from the juniors.
