Southwestern College has broken new ground by offering its first in-person college course at Tijuana’s CETYS Universidad Campus, on Sept. 25.

As part of a strategic partnership formalized in November 2023, this initiative represents a step forward in cross-border educational collaboration.

The course, Business 121-601: Principles of Money Management, is taught by Southwestern College’s Professor Frank Paiano. This collaboration stems from a memorandum of understanding between Southwestern College and CETYS Universidad, aimed at enhancing academic, cultural, and workforce-related development in the border region.

The partnership between SWC and CETYS focuses on fostering opportunities such as student exchange programs, joint efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in international education, and the establishment of 2+2 articulation agreements. Students from both institutions have the chance to participate in study abroad programs and benefit from tuition waivers and discounts for special programs at CETYS, such as the International Summer Program and Winterim activities.

This partnership also paves the way for future Southwestern College courses to be taught at CETYS Universidad, underscoring both institutions’ commitment to strengthening educational ties across borders and enriching the academic experience for students.
