UC San Diego has introduced a mandatory climate change course for all undergraduates.
The requirement, named after devoted climate education advocate Jane Teranes, requires all freshmen to enroll in a one-quarter course related to climate change. UC San Diego plans to offer 40 different classes that can fulfill this requirement.
“We need everyone engaged in this work,” said Sarah Gille, a Scripps professor who played a key role in introducing the requirement. “We hope the program will inspire others to follow suit.”
