Voice of San Diego’s new 2024 Parent’s Guide to San Diego Schools helps local families make informed decisions for their child’s education. It’s one of the most authoritative school guides in San Diego County.

The guide explains school choice opportunities and enrollment deadlines, UTK and TK, what’s available for after-school care, and school performance data in an easy-to-use format and much more.

This year there’s in-depth information on Individualized Education Programs, or IEPs for students with special needs. These plans are crafted in partnership with a student’s school district and are meant to ensure that all kids have the support they need to learn and grow.

There’s also an examination of chronic absenteeism, which has become a huge problem since the pandemic.

For working parents, there is a helpful map that shows what, if any after-school care options districts around the county offer, and how long each district’s waitlist tends to be, if they have one.

Last, there is mountain of data about each of the county’s more than 720 public schools, from enrollment to chronic absenteeism to graduation rates. The authors have analyzed test scores and controlled for family income to show how effective schools actually are at educating kids.

The guide is generously supported by The Girard Foundation, David and Annie Malcolm, Girl Scouts San Diego, Nordson Corporation, Brian Connelly & Associates, Carmel Valley Test Prep, and all Voice of San Diego members.
