Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the appointment Friday of a Chula Vista woman to a subcommittee of the newly formed Early Childhood Policy Council.

Newsom appointed 14 people to the council and three each to the council’s Parent and Workforce subcommittees. Child care provider and Chula Vista resident Miren Algorri, 45, will serve on the Workforce Subcommittee following Newsom’s appointment.

Algorri has been a child-care provider with Algorri Family Childcare since 1996, according to the governor’s office.

She is also a member of San Diego’s Family Childcare Association and the state’s Family Childcare Network. She will not require state Senate confirmation to begin serving on the subcommittee and there is no compensation for her position.

The council will advise state officials on how to craft policy for early childhood learning and care and how to improve the state’s forthcoming Master Plan for Early Learning and Care and a final report from the Assembly’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Early Childhood Education. California Surgeon General Nadine Burke Harris will chair the council.

“Every child in our state should have the resources and support they need to live happy and healthy lives,” Newsom said. “We are bringing together experts from diverse backgrounds to create a Master Plan for Early Learning and Care that will be rooted in lifting up California’s children and families today, tomorrow and into the future.”
