Alternative rock radio station 91X announced Monday it has raised more than $16,000 for the San Diego County Office of Education through its “Inspired By Music” concert series.
The SDCOE, 91X and Belly Up Entertainment launched a partnership last year that eventually led to the concert series, which is held at the Music Box in downtown San Diego. For each event, 91X committed to donate $1 of every ticket sold to a grant program for public school teachers around the county.
Since launching the fundraising effort, Green Flash Brewing Company joined and pledged to match the $1 commitment for all shows in the concert series and all events at their tasting room in Mira Mesa. Bands like Angels & Airwaves and Local Natives have also pledged money to the grant fund.
All told, 91X has raised $16,359, with three events still remaining in the concert series this year.
“To say we’re thrilled is an understatement,” 91X Program Director Garett Michaels said. “This wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of Green Flash Brewing Company and their matching donation, collaborative support from the team at Belly Up and Music Box, the artists and bands who have stepped up to perform and, of course, all the San Diego music fans for coming out to the shows and supporting a great cause.”
The funds will be split into grants for music technology, teacher professional development, innovation and field trips to musical events and museums. According to 91X, grants are expected to be dispersed early next year.
The final three Inspired By Music concerts are scheduled for Oct. 14, Nov. 20 and Dec. 11. Tickets for each concert can be found at 91x.com/inspired- by-music.
