The Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park says registration is open for science camps geared toward kids during spring break.
Full-day camps for grades 1 through 8 are available every day from Monday, March 25, through Friday, March 29.
Each day of camp offers skills using science, technology, engineering, art and math. Activities are designed to be hands-on, encourage inquiry and make science learning fun and accessible.
In the STEAM Spring Camps for grades 1-3, kids can experiment with hydropower, learn about the ocean and investigate the great outdoors. Prices are $60 a day for members, $65 for nonmembers.
For grades 4-8, the Fleet is partnering with ThoughtSTEM to host Computer Science and Technology Spring Camps. Prices are $70 a day for members, $75 for nonmembers.
Attendees can sign up for a single day or enroll for multiple days.
Each day campers will learn how to create a 2D video game, inspired by popular games and movies, with topics like “Coding for Star Wars Fans” and “Coding for Fortnite Fans.”
Besides learning how to code, students will also be guided in the ways of digital citizenship and how to safely share their fan-fiction work with the world.
The Fleet Science Center offers extended day services during camp. Early dropoff is available from 8 to 9 a.m. and late pick up is from 4 to 5 p.m. For an additional $20, families can choose one or both options.
