A report of possible gunfire at Southwestern College led to a brief lockdown of the campus Tuesday.
Police received a single report of possible gunfire on the third floor of the library of the Chula Vista community college about 12:45 p.m., said campus spokeswoman Lillian Leopold.
Officers evacuated and searched the structure while placing the Otay Lakes Road campus on lockdown as an added precaution.
Finding no evidence of a shooting, police gave an all-clear about 1:45 p.m., after which the roughly 15-minute lockdown was lifted and normal campus activities resumed, Leopold said.
It was unclear what prompted the apparently unfounded report of gunfire, the spokeswoman said.
College and Chula Vista police investigated possible gunfire on the 3rd floor of the Chula Vista SWC library. Only the library was evacuated and the entire campus went on a brief lockdown, which has now been lifted. The all-clear has been given. All operations resume as normal.
